Dr. Raskas specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) which thanks to recent technological advances, allows more back and neck conditions to be treated with a minimally invasive surgical approach.

For the surgeon to see the problem area using the traditional “open” approach, muscle is retracted or pulled out of the way which can damage both the muscle and the surrounding soft tissue and may lead to a lengthier recovery period, increased blood loss and risk for infection.

Minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) was developed to treat spine problems with less injury to the muscle and other structures in the spine by aiding Dr. Raskas to view the problem area, exclusively. Other advantages of MISS include smaller incisions, less bleeding, and shorter stays in the hospital resulting in a quicker return to normal activities.
